"A man thinks as well through his legs and arms as this brain." -- Henry David Thoreau
My Happy Place is pretty much anywhere out of doors. It almost doesn't matter what I'm doing. Mostly these days I do a lot of trail running, preferably in the company of friends in the mountains. Even better is at trail I've never explored before (which is getting harder to accomplish!). Over the years the primary spot has been backpacking on the Appalachian Trail, exploring caves in West Virginia, rock climbing, mountaineering, road biking, backcountry skiing, and any number of other pursuits; and I still do many of these as time permits. Now that my kids are getting older and tougher, I've started turning it into a family adventure. It's wonderful to see the world through a fresh pair of eyes!

Making

I like tinkering with stuff and making my own gear. Recently I built a gravel bike and I'm now building ultralight backpacking gear.

Where I've Been

Brewing

Brewing, you guessed it, a Scottish Ale!
I enjoy beer, particular Belgian ales, but many other styles as well. I brewed my first batch of beer from a kit with help from my pal Dave from Layger Brewhaus in January of 2016. It was a lot of fun and really came out pretty well! There's something incredibly satisfying about enjoying a cold beverage you made yourself. In the meantime, I've had a lot of fun brewing up a few others as well - some more successful than others, but all drinkable.
