Research Interests:

  • Design and leadership of Cosmic Origins Spectrograph (COS) proposal effort recently selected for the 2009 reservicing mission.
  • Far Ultraviolet Spectroscopic Explorer. Development of current optical design of FUSE which includes design, assembly, alignment and calibration of FUSE spectrograph.
  • Ultraviolet sounding rocket program.
  • Planetary sounding rocket program with observations of comet Hale-Bopp.
  • Astrophysical interest: interstellar medium, hot stars, cosmology.
  • Technical Development: Grazing incidence optics, microchannel plate detectors, UV, EUV, and X-ray gratings, spectroscopic instrument design.
