I am currently a postdoc at the Center for Astrophysics and Space Astronomy working with the Cosmic Origins Spectrograph (COS) science team. COS will be installed aboard the Hubble Space Telescope in 2009, and we will be analyzing the data it returns shortly thereafter.
In November 2006, I successfully defended my Ph.D. thesis in astrophysics from the University of Colorado, where I worked under the supervision of Dr. John Stocke. My dissertation studied the (in)ability of galactic winds to transport heavy elements from the star formation sites where they are created to the surrounding intergalactic medium. These heavy elements are found throughout intergalactic space and transport by galactic winds is one of the leading hypotheses for their existence far from the regions of space where they were created. We find that it is easier for winds to escape from dwarf galaxies than their more massive counterparts.
