I am an associate professor in the Department of Astrophysical and Planetary Sciences at the University of Colorado. My research home is the Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics. I am the principal investigator of the Ultraviolet Astrophysics Rocket Group, the Colorado Ultraviolet Transit Experiment cubesat mission, the MUSCLES Treasury Survey, and a member of the HST-Cosmic Origins Spectrograph (COS) Science Team and NASA's LUVOIR Surveyor Science and Technology Definition Team.

My research group (see photo to the right) develops spectroscopic instrumentaiton for space-based astrophysics and planetary science. We are also frequent guest observers on the Hubble Space Telescope, the Chandra X-ray observatory, and several ground-based observatories.

My group's research focuses on:

  • Rocket payloads and instrument development for future missions:
France et al. (2016a), Fleming et al. (2015), France et al. (2017)
  • Exoplanetary atmospheres and host stars:
France et al. (2016c), Youngblood et al. (2016), Loyd & France (2014), France et al. (2013)
  • Planet-forming Disks - lifetimes, structures, and compositions:
France et al. (2014), Hoadley et al. (2015), France et al. (2012) , France et al. (2017)
  • Supernova remnants, low-z star-forming galaxies, and the intergalactic medium:
France et al. (2015), Danforth et al. (2013), France et al. (2010a), France et al. (2010b), Shull et al. (2010)
  • Atoms, molecules, and dust in the diffuse interstellar medium and photodissociation regions:
McJunkin et al. (2014), France et al. (2013), Fleming et al. (2010), Burgh et al. (2007)
