EXAMS: There will be
no exams.
HOMEWORK: Each student will be given some papers or topics to research and present to the seminar.
COURSE GRADE: Your grade will be based on participation and presentation of material as assigned.
GOALS OF THIS COURSE:
We are going to look at the advances in exoplanet science over the last ten years. We will discuss the various approaches that have been used and what science each has produced. Despite the way the course name was advertised we will not heavily concentrate on the New Worlds approach.
MATERIAL:
In the fall 3730 covered emission mechanisms and stellar structure, ending with a
discussion of the Milky Way. In this semester will we discuss the universe beyond our
galaxy. Topics will include galaxies, clustering of galaxies, active galactic nuclei,
cosmology, and the Big Bang.
