Recent observations of Betelgeuse with eMERLIN showing two chromospheric hotspots are now thought to be artifacts of the interferometry. A recent analysis of multi-epoch multi-wavelength VLA data by O'Gorman et al. 2015 (Accepted) (arXiv:1506.07536) show that the eMERLIN spots separated by 90 mas were very difficult to reconcile with higher frequency VLA observations (some with the PieTown antenna), and the previous monitoring studies.
